Seasonal conformation pics are in, and they're gorgeous, as usual! Just ignore the fact that instead of April, it's, well.... June. About the time that I usually start thinking about summer glam shots.
Honestly, she isn't as grossly obese as I keep thinking she is. She's plump, but in an okay kind of way. Clearly she's lost a lot of topline, but other than that, she looks great. Shiny, healthy.... dapple-y! For the second year in a row, she decided to dapple out for some random reason! (All other previous springs bad things were happening to her, like the barn owner in Ohio hardly feeding her for 3 weeks when I was in Costa Rica, and the Crazy Trainer starving and beating her the year before.)
And the outtakes....
((LOL SHE FLASHED THE CAMERA!))
((Hmmmmm flattering))
((My photographer was mystefied by her tail))
((DAPPLES OF JOY!))
Lovely!
In other news, work under saddle is going really, really well... so long as drugs are involved. Which is AWFUL to say and I'm the last person on earth that I EVER thought would say that, but honestly, a 1/4cc of Ace right now keeps her mind in the right place (a very happy place!), and her feet on the ground. I did try it without it for two days earlier in the week, and while the first day went well, the second day did NOT. There was apparently a doe bedded down in the woods next to the arena, and while I did not see it at first, Gogo did. Of course, on that day, right? That's the problem though... that's not something I can plan for. There were some very acrobatic spins and leaps, and one very lovely, straight, balanced, and perfectly executed levade that half did me proud and half made me want to rap her over the top of the head with an egg, had I been carrying one. I have absolutely no problem sitting out whatever she can dish out... but I can't risk her doing any damage to her legs. It's not worth it, so out came the drugs the next day. And she was perfect. Atta girl.
We're doing a lot of this.....
... but hot damn, does it ever feel good to be back in the saddle!!

She looks lovely! Yeah for back in the saddle! Be a good girl Gogo.
Yeah! Go Gogo!
She looks so pretty! The dapples are gorgeous, Pongo is perma-dappled but I do miss the joy of seeing REAL dapples, makes me feel like I'm doin a good job keeping my horse happy. On a completely unrelated note, I was out hiking yesterday with KG and Peanut in SF and saw a guy with your avatar shoes, it made me think of you =)
Gorgeous!
You look so happy to be up there in the saddle. And as far as drugs are concerned...my philosophy is, I'd rather avoid it, but you do what you need to in order to help your horse heal. I think you're making a smart choice, for what it's worth! Hopefully soon she can come off the juice and still be a nice calm thing ;)
Gogo looks great! Also, I LOVE your purple breeches! What are they?
She's such a beautiful mare, and I can tell she is well groomed and well cared for. LOVE the outtakes!
And your riding clothes are awesome, dude.
Yay Gogo! Nice and relaxed.
Love the outtakes.
"Levade"????
Oh Gogo, Airs Above the Ground is not part of your recovery!
I reluctantly agree that the Ace is necessary. Andrea, keep up the good work - it is great to see you riding again ; )
So glad to see you back up in the saddle!! Even more excited to read your upcoming posts and see her progress! yay Gogo!!
YAY GOGO!! I LOVE THEM! Especially that Gogo-flash one. That was hot ;)
Glad to see you guys are making progress...I just noticed your dressage saddle and was wondering what brang/make it is? I am trying to find one for my horse and have been using a treeless...not sure how I feel about it yet though.
ACE = My new best friend. Better living through drugs. Denali is dappling out, and not getting any sun bleaching due to the fact she hasn't been outside for a month. She's doing well, which is shocking to me! What boots do you use on Go-go? Any? I feel that I am going to need to get her some better protection when (not if!) she can start back under sadddle.
How long was Go-Go's entire rehab? I'm assuming 6 months. I am still just SO PISSED that this had to happen right before summer. Ugh.
Sorry for rambling, but I think you know how I feel!

OH!! And Happy 9th Birthday Gogo!!! Hope you got lots of treats!
Denalis Mom...we all feel for you too! I have to say though, be glad it happened during summer because it is SOOOO not fun bringing back a hot horse in the winter!!! Plus, you'll have the time to tend the rehab, it gets a little intense and time consuming. We're all thinking happy thoughts for you!
Army Wife Tata, I have a Prestige 2000D. LOVE that saddle!! It's Italian-made so it has different panels than an English-made saddle might but it seems to work well for Gogo. I don't have a lot of experience with treeless so I can't help you there; you'd have to ask a saddle fitter what they think.
